SMRC for 6/16/07 - Featuring Larry Karp

Today’s featured author is Larry Karp, author of THE RAGTIME KID. This is the first book in what will be a Ragtime mystery trilogy centered on the birth, death, and rebirth of Ragtime music. THE RAGTIME KID is a blend of historical fact and fiction. Aspiring Ragtime musician Brun Campbell must solve two mysteries - that of a murdered woman he finds on the outskirts of the city and why John Stark, a white man, gave an unknown young black composer named Scott Joplin a royalties contract to publish the breakthrough hit, Maple Leaf Rag.

Ragtime Kid, TheIt is the turn of the 20th century and all 15-year-old Brun Campbell wants to do is to learn how to play ragtime. In order to do that, he’ll have to leave Oklahoma behind and travel to Sedalia, Missouri…to track down the man who would soon be known as the King of Ragtime, Scott Joplin. Brun finds himself holding the clues that would clear a friend from murder charges…and would point the finger of blame squarely at himself and Joplin.

THE RAGTIME KID appeared on the L.A. Times hardover fiction best-seller list on December 3, 2006 and Larry has been invited to present a symposium at the West Coast Ragtime Festival in Sacramento, California, on November 16 - 18.

You can find Larry Karp on the web www.larrykarp.com. On the web site you will find the first chapter of THE RAGTIME KID, several author interviews, upcoming appearances, and a listing and descriptions of Larry’s other titles.

Thanks!
